The method of searching that you employ will generally depend upon the type of book you are seeking and the amount of information you have regarding the book.
Many times when you are seeking a specific title, you will have the
ISBN.
This is
a number assigned to one and only one book.
International Standard Book Number. Each book has a 10 digit number to identify it and make it unique. Dashes are sometimes used i.e. 1-57566-912-9, but must be stripped out to create the computer useable number. Some people say "ISBN Number" (redundantly).
